Working Men’s Club – Devout

“Devout” it’s the Manchester band’s debut single for Domino Records, and Sydney Minsky Sargeant, who leads the project, made it with an extraordinary co-producer: Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, also a Grammy-winning film composer. “Devout” follows the band’s self-titled 2020 debut and 2022’s “Fear Fear”, the two records that built their reputation on industrial-leaning electronics. In between, Minsky Sargeant turned inward on his solo album “Lunga” and made the “Demise Of Love” EP with Daniel Avery and Ghost Culture’s James Greenwood.

That shift shows up in the lyrics as much as the sound. Where earlier Working Men’s Club songs leaned on elusive, fragmented imagery, “Devout” lets some real vulnerability through, even if the specifics stay open to interpretation. Musically, the track keeps the band’s underlying tension intact but gives it room to build toward something closer to euphoria instead of snapping straight to destruction, which is where the Ross collaboration seems to matter most.
